TYPES AND SHAPES OF PILLOWS
We gradually moved from the regular square pillows to rectangular ones and then to orthopedic ones. It does not interfere with understanding the features of each type and form.
Sleeping pillows can be divided into two groups:
classic;
orthopedic.
The classic pillow is familiar to everyone from childhood. Earlier, square cushions with a size of 70 * 70 cm and for children 50 * 50 cm were widespread. Now more than half of buyers choose pillows of the euro size – 70 * 50 cm and 60 * 40 cm for adults and children, respectively. How can you explain such popularity? Firstly, a person in a dream moves horizontally and not from top to bottom. Secondly, for a 70 * 50 cm pillow, less filler is needed, which affects the price. Thirdly, most bedding manufacturers complete sets with rectangular pillowcases.
Orthopedic pillows provide reliable head support and are essential for spinal problems. Such products are in the form of a roller or rectangle with a depression in the center to ensure the head and neck’s optimal position during rest. Orthopedic sleep pillows are made of several layers of unique filler (latex, memory form, polyurethane foam), which memorizes the part of the head and neck. Only one layer of ordinary filler is used in fakes, as in classic pillows, so you should be extremely careful when buying.
These products are recommended for use by people with problems with the musculoskeletal system, incl, discover more here. Suffering from osteochondrosis, chronic pain in the cervical spine, torticollis, increased muscle tone, and trauma and displacement of the vertebrae. There is no consensus on whether it is worth using orthopedic pillows for everyone, without exception. Official medicine says that there should be no harm, but common sense suggests that if there are no health problems, you can choose a classic but high-quality pillow – it will be cheaper but no less comfortable.
An orthopedic pillow’s disadvantage is the need to get used to its shape, increased rigidity, rugged and high side.
Can you sleep without a pillow at all? Better not, because over time, from such a rest, the cervical spine will begin to bend, provoking pain and other unpleasant consequences.
CUSHION HEIGHT
If pillows’ sizes for sleeping are more or less standard, then the height can vary significantly. When choosing, take into account the physique of the sleeper and the preferred sleeping positions:
if you usually sleep on your side, then the pillow’s height should match the width of your shoulder. Measure from the base of the neck to the shoulder point.
